There is no health without mental health. There is no us and them. All of us experience ups and downs with our mental health and recently this has impacted on our daily life and wellbeing more than ever. In fact, more than 1 in 4 of us will have a diagnosable mental health condition at some point, and 82% of adults have experienced stress as a result of the pandemic.
We can do something about this!

OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE

Successful participants will achieve SQA Level 5 in First Aid for Mental Health, a regulated 3-year qualification. Participants will also leave with a quality manual for their reference and access to additional resources and support for their application of mental health first aid.
In addition to the planned outcomes, it is often fed back to me that participants have better overall understanding of how daily challenges and stress can impact them at home and at work, and they feel much more confident at maintaining health and wellbeing, for themselves and those around them. Impact includes improved culture of mental health in the workplace, more open communication and engagement, and reduced absenteeism.

Award in First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 5
Anyone can be affected by a mental health condition either themselves or a family member, friend or colleague.
This course is suitable for everyone but has been designed to help employers and managers to provide a positive mental health culture within the workplace and to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge on a range of the most common mental health conditions and the skills to be able to act to support someone who may be showing signs of distress.
Learners undertaking this course will be considered First Aiders for Mental Health and be a point of contact within the workplace to help and support those with a suspected mental health condition.
Building on the Level 1/4 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health this course introduces the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan which allows learners to provide their peers with comprehensive guidance and support for a suspected mental health condition or to support their wellbeing. Learners will be able to provide signposting to professional help and support that person whilst they are receiving appropriate assistance.
This course also covers the effects of drugs and alcohol and provides learners with the skills and knowledge to assist employers in implementing a positive mental health culture to support employees within a workplace.

Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, Learners will be awarded the Ofqual regulated Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)/ Award in First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 5. The fee for the one-day course from First Aid Awards, with the SQA accreditation, whether virtual or in-person delivery, is comprised of two elements - the course delivery fee, which is for a group of any size up to the maximum of 16; and the cost per participant which covers their personal manual to keep, the assessments, and their certification for the Ofqual / SQA qualification.
